‘community is at the heart of Augies.’
Everything at Augie’s place has a story, from our old school recipes to our infamous ‘Paw-l of Fame wall’.
We are about welcoming an including community into a nice relaxed green place, providing a calm and safe environment for all diversities.
I started Augie’s as I have a love for dogs and in particular corgi’s. I also have a love of consistently good coffee and believe everyone should have a great coffee at an affordable price, therefore we do not have additional charges for non dairy milks. My Zia Tulia always welcomed everyone into her home over a cup of coffee and Italian waffles and biscotti. She was a beautiful happy soul to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Our recipes come from many strong and talented women who have inspired and taught me how to bake. I am not a chef but a life long cook with commercial pastry and cake baking and decorating background.
Our colour, decor and green spaces are inspired by my aunt who loved to paint Australian native landscapes and in her memory, I have incorporated this to combine with the lovely natural space we have surrounding us here in Brunswick.
My mother and Nonna taught me how to continue the Italian traditions of our heritage through traditional ingredients and making use of everything we have and not throwing anything out, but creating dynamic delicious meals that make you feel right at home and welcome. That is how I would like you to feel when you visit us.
Over the years I have worked with some amazing strong women in the hospitality industry and I am grateful for those that have inspired me, Anke Fellner, Trish Hollomby, Gail, Kate Reid, Jaz, Layla, Stacey, Jessica, Suzy, Valentine, Hien and Francesca just to name a few. But there are many more. There are some amazing women in our industry currently that work crazy long hours with hard physical work and a happiness and achievement on their minds. My support friends Dhana and Rach and my siblings, nieces and nephews.
The furnishings at Augie’s also come from many different homes, and we have the honour of enjoying them in our space, a big thank you to Denise for our feature table setting.
We also have an amazing artist in residence Isabella, who has created many pieces that you will see in Augie’s and one large piece in particular that I insisted we have commissioned and takes pride of place in our café.
Even our bathrooms have taken a lot of thought and care, my daughters assisting with finding the perfect colours and images in a bit of a fun space. our handwash is from “Two Good Co.” who support and encourage women who have and do live with domestic violence, by purchasing their products you can help support them and assist with them building their own strength. These can be purchased in our merchandise shelving.
Our toilet paper “Yarnin” also supports and funds first nation artists, with profits assisting with their artistic development and helps to promote their amazing talents.
There are many other people who have helped so very much getting Augie’s up and running, Rocco, Elliot, Nic, Harrison, Jack and Pepper, Sam and of course the guy that greats everyone every weekend- Darrin
We hope you come and sit for a while, bring your friends, bring your furbabies and enjoy a nice space or grab some takeaways to work or take home treats for all.
